Politics:

It’s election season, and although temperatures are cooling off, the political atmosphere is heating up. You might think that Idyllwild is dominated by one party or another, depending on which side of the fence you reside on. It’s not! Idyllwild typically votes 50% republican and 50% democratic. Likewise, our country is very evenly divided as well. In fact, in the last 30 presidential elections (1904 – 2020), 15 have been won by democrats and 15 have been won by republicans. We’ve all suffered through times when “our choice” wasn’t in the White House. It’s inevitable. What’s different these days is, social media. Behind their keyboards, people are outspoken and judgmental. It’s everywhere. People actually THINK they’re going to change someone’s mind with a meme or opinion that’s posted with passion on social media. The only thing that’s changed, is the way you look at that person when you run into them at the post office or the grocery store.
It really isn’t about an individual…it’s about a philosophy. Democrats tend to think more government is the answer and republicans tend to think less government is the answer. Both parties have said and done PLENTY of despicable things. No party is pure and blameless. And I doubt anyone is going to change someone else’s mind by posting a mean graphic. Please study both parties platforms, but remember, these are things each party would LIKE to accomplish according to priority, not necessarily what they can or will accomplish. Do your due diligence, listen to your heart, ask yourself how you and your family are doing, and VOTE according to your priorities. But don’t make enemies in such a small town. It’s not worth it. It breeds bad will. Write to your congressman or your senator. But don’t take it out on your neighbor.
