Suicide Rock – Climbers Trail:

Suicide Rock is the less known granite monolith near Humber Park known primarily by Rock Climbers. It stands at 7,510 feet (Tahquitz Peak stands at 8,846 feet) and you can’t really see it unless you are at Humber Park driving around the parking loop looking back toward town. Most people don’t know much about Suicide Rock, unless you’re a rock climber. It has 300 described climbing routes. It is MUCH easier for climbers to access, with the base being just under 1 mile. Not a Rock Climber? Here’s the interesting part for you…

The trail that leads to the base of Suicide Rock is on private property, so it’s not listed on any hiking lists. But anyone can hike it if you know where to go, and the best part is….it’s short….it’s strenuous…and your reward is you can sit, rest and watch actual Rock Climbers climb this awesome rock. It’s an unknown hike that takes a bit of sleuthing, but is well worth the short (hard) hike to watch climbers climb!

Drive up Fern Valley Rd. toward Humber Park. Look for a tiny little street called “Forest Dr.” On the way UP to Humber Park, it will go off to your right. If you see cars parked along the beginning of Forest Dr., you know there are probably climbers up on Suicide Rock. Park here, walk across Fern Valley Rd. and look for a little sign that says “Climbers Trail”. Take Climbers trail about 3/4 of a mile. It will be very steep but easy to stay on since so many climbers have used it. It goes through private property but the climbers have an understanding with the owners that as long as they stay on the trail and are respectful, there’s no problem using it. At the end of this short strenuous hike, you will literally be at the bottom of Suicide Rock and if there are climbers on the rock, they will usually be right there in front of you. Take a rest and watch these athletes scale this amazing rock. It’s an unknown hike that ends with an amazing reward.

New Visitor Center

Opening July 4th
We Need Volunteers!

This new Visitor Center, located right behind the new public bathrooms, has a small organizing team getting ready to open on the 4th of July. Our goal is to find enough volunteers to work a 3 hour shift on Saturdays and Sundays to be open throughout the year. We would also like to be open on holidays that don’t fall on Sat/Sun (like 4th of July & the following Friday) and all week between Christmas & New Year. The shifts will be Am Shift: 10am – 1pm and PM Shift: 1pm – 4pm. If we end up getting more volunteers than expected, we will expand our hours. All you need is a love for our town and a willingness to help visitors to our hill have a great time while they’re here. We will train you to do the rest.

If you would like to volunteer to talk to visitors, help them find their way and point them in the direction of “A Good Time” please contact me at hello@GoodMorningIdyllwild.com. Download the Volunteer Application below, fill it out, take a photo with your phone and send it off to hello@GoodMorningIdyllwild.com or you can drop it off at The Art Dept. on lower Pine Crest.

We will be asking businesses to contribute donations to help pay for recurring costs such as printing maps, etc. The building and all utilities have been graciously provided by Shane & Ashley Stewart.
